On Sunday Don and I were able to have a good look at the new house at Poolenalena. We walked all around and looked through windows. It is in the last stages of construction. The foot print of Grandma and Grandpa's house was largely followed. The biggest change was the extension of the wall along the long corridor looking into the courtyard. That entire wall has been pushed out and is now flush with where the kitchen door to the carport used to be. You'll see in the photos posted on Don and Lynne's Blog. In general the house looked and felt really good. Even though it the old house was completely demolished and then rebuilt, it felt strangely familiar.

That's so strange that you should post these pictures today. I just had a dream last night that I went back to see the house and it was still there just like it used to be. In my dream I sat at the table that used to be in front of the kitchen window and Ryan and I watched the sunset. When I woke up I tried to decide if it was "fiscally responsible" to take my family back again. I miss Maui. And I miss you and Don!
It was actually 2 days ago that Ella was asking me about Hawaii. She said she'd rather go there than Disneyland! So, I dreamed, also that I was on a plane back to Hawaii! That's awesome that they left some of the original plan in tact.
I was just thinking last night about the house, too! I was imagining myself back there again.
Wow! I am always impressed by telepathic connections and this is ultra. You were all strongly in my mind as I explored the house with my eyes and iPod camera and as I constructed the blog. There was also a extra strong wave of connection to Grandma and Grandpa that occurred when I was standing in the courtyard where they used to sit by the front door. That was when I felt the familiarity of it all.
This literally brings a tear to my eye.
Wow! We knew they would have to renovate - but HELLO! Actually, I'm impressed; some things have been lost but other aspects are quite nice. I'm suprised to see how they stuck to the old foot print. I, like Ryan, shed a tear but it was back when you told me they had demolished the old house; that was a very sad day for me.
fyi I think the Lamond's were required to stick to the old footprint in order to maintain the 40ft setback to the mean high water line. The current requirements for new homes are much deeper setbacks than in 1972 when the Gilroy's built their home. So the original architectural plan is the underlying influence in this new version of the house.
Thats so cool! I loved all the pictures on your blog... it does create a feeling of comfort with the familiar footprint. I hate to say it, but I didn't have any dreams! Darn it! But my husband and been asking about Lynne lately and telling me to call to see when we can visit!
