Happy Birthday

We had our little baby boy last night at 6:50. He weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces, so I'm kind of glad they induced me early or he would've been 8 pounds for sure!! We spent most of last night nursing and burping for some reason. But today he is getting the hang of more and more things. It was so fun to watch him for his first few minutes get used to lights and sounds and touch and look around and decide if he wanted to cry or not. So cute!

He's got dark hair like his daddy and brother Will! ...And the cutest little monkey face. I love holding him and he likes to lay on his tummy on me. Very snuggly.

The one thing I've always wanted when I had a baby was that moment right after they're born when it hits you how much you love them and how much joy they bring just by entering the world. I actually got that this time and when I held him in my arms I realized how much I wanted him in our family. It's amazing how quickly you can fall in love sometimes.

nervous

Ok, they want me to come in at 10. Wish me luck. I'm a little scared.

update

I called the hospital today and they said they have 4 medical things and one induction scheduled before me tomorrow. If it gets too late in the morning, depending on what my doctor says, they may end up rescheduling me. They said they would just stay in contact with me tomorrow morning. So, thought I'd let people know.

My Uncanny Obsessions

My Relief Society activity board and volunteers help me sew almost 80 of these placemats for our recent R.S. Birthday Anniversary Dinner. I had so much fun picking out these fabrics but I think I tortured just about every friend of mine in the ward, trying to put this all together.

Each place setting had a card with a different picture of a temple on the outside, along with the program inside. The utensils were wrapped in napkins held together with floral decorations. And then at the top of each place setting was a Gladioli bulb wrapped in a gift bag sitting on green moss and chocolate Easter eggs.

Some of the tables had a few pictures of grandparents in black and white photographs. (I was going for the Vintage look.) But it was a really fun way to spice up an activity focused on Genealogy. My friends may never speak to me again, but I had a blast and it seemed the women in the ward felt special with all the work and detail on their behalf, and thats all the matters.

The cake trays held these cupcakes as our centerpieces. I forgot to take pictures of the ones Vinessa and I made, as well as one other friend of mine, Nikki Thacker. All the different cupcakes were floral decorated (and smelled delicious). Our dinner was a potato bar and the evening was a lot of fun. Glad its over... and on to the next one. Wah ha ha!

Road Trip?

So, my neighbor and woodturning cohort came to visit Tuesday. He said his old Craftsman lathe had broken down again. He has spent the last three weeks getting tools and materials ready to really "hit" woodturning in a big way. He's frustrated.
He went home and got on Craigslist, looking for a "big bad" lathe like mine. Bang, he finds the perfect machine, 2 years old, hardly used, $1000 below new - calls the guy - it's been listed for 1 hour - he buys it - comes back to tell me about it - I'm happy for him. I tell him I'll help him pick it up this Monday. He's grateful. Did I mention, it's in Denver.

Utah Women

Three friends married women from different parts of the West...

The first man wedded a Montana native. He told her to do the dishes, the house cleaning, and make hot meals every night when he came home.... It took a couple of days, but on the 3rd day he came home to see a clean house, washed dished, and a hot meal.

The second man married a Wyoming native... He gave her the same orders, and about the second day found the house clean, dishes done, and nice hot dinner made.

The third man married a girl from Utah. He gave her the same orders. The first day he didn't see anything, as well as the second, but by the third day some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye. His arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher... He still has some difficulty when he pees.

They're getting closer

The deer have decided that they want to hang out on the inside of my fence, now.

Dates

We talked with Doug's doctor this morning and scheduled April 27 for his surgery day. We found out that our doc does one of these radical cystectomy with reconstruction surgeries A WEEK! We have a lot of confidence in him and in the whole Huntsman Cancer Center, so I'm sure Doug will be well taken care of. Also, I will call tomorrow, but we are going to try to set the date for our sealing for April 17. We both feel like we are in a much better place than we were two weeks ago--no longer trying to figure out how to get out of it, but just getting set to get through it.
Dad,
I have another family photo from Jane's blessing where the Smiths are looking a lot perkier! See?

Senior Moment revisited

Today I walked out of Costco up to a van that looked just like mine and pushed my unlock button about 10 times. I even tried bashing it on my wrist. Did I mention it was raining? And I was in flip-flops? I finally looked inside the front driver's window and saw that the items laying around inside were not recognizable. I found my car one row over and even closer to the store entrance. So much for a short distance through the rain. So, does this mean Seniors are off the hook?

Vegan Enchiladas

I just thought you all should know that tonight I made the Vegan Enchiladas... and WOW! They were so awesome! I made the Spanish rice to go with it, but couldn't stop eating the Enchiladas. Thank you Jacque for sharing such a great recipe! You made our night!

A little more info

I thought this article explained everything pretty much the way our doctor did.

It's outta here!!

Doug's losing his bladder. We had a long talk with his doctors today and I guess that's what we need to do next. We don't have a date yet. I think the dr. would like to schedule it in the next two months, but we're going to push to wait for the summer, just after Darlene's wedding. Doug's going to take a CAT scan this week and then we'll meet with his Dr. in about two weeks and set up a plan. We're feeling pretty depressed, and scared, but I'm sure you would have guessed that.
